Matching Ties, das sind die Männer mit den zusammen passenden Krawatten, welche sie auf der Bühne tragen – ein Symbol der Musik, die die Musiker aus 3 verschiedenen Ländern vereint. Gegründet im Jahr 1986 von Paul Stowe (USA) und Trevor Morriss (GB) sind sie seitdem durch Europa und die U.S.A. mit über 3000 Konzerten gereist. Sie treten in Besetzungen zwischen Duo und Sextett auf. In den Line-Ups von Trio bis Sextett spielen einige der besten in Deutschland ansässigen Folkmusikern mit: Lars Pfeiffer (Frankfurt) an Uilleann Pipes (irischer Dudelsack) und Whistles (irische Metallflöten), Konrad Stock (München) an Bodhrán (irische Rahmentrommel), Whistles und schottischer Dudelsack sowie 2 neue Geiger aus Regensburg, Sepp Zauner und Sebastian Dorn – alles Instrumentalisten der Extraklasse. Im Repertoire sind traditionelle irische, englische und schottische Folkmusik mit einem modernen Touch. Rasante Soli bei den Tunes (Tanzmelodien) wechseln mit flotten Songs und gefühlvollen Balladen ab. Von Kleinkunstbühnen bis Festivals und Stadthallen tritt Matching Ties konzertant und unterhaltsam auf und kommen bei allen Altersgruppen gut an. Als Begleitband junger preisgekrönter irischer StepptänzerInnen präsentieren sie ihre beliebten Irish Folk Nights.

Matching Ties are the guys with the matching neck ties, a symbol of the music that unites its musicians of 5 nationalities. Founded in 1986 by singers and multiinstrumentalists American Paul Stowe and Englishman Trevor Morriss, they have since toured Europe and the U.S.A. as a duo or band with an amazing amout of over 3000 concerts. They perform in line-ups from duo to sextet with some of the finest folk musicians based in Germany: Lars Pfeiffer an uilleann pipes, tin and low whistles, Konrad stock from Munich on bodhrán, Scottish Highland pipes and whistles, and 2 fiddlers from Regensburg, Germany Sepp Zauner and Sebastian Dorn, all of them excellent instrumentalists. Traditional acoustic folk with a modern touch, they play a variety of lively songs, tunes and slow ballads from the Irish, Scottish and English repertoire old and new. From small cultural clubs to halls and festivals they appeal to audiences of all age groups with their musical variety and spontaneous jokes and loose, bordering on black humor. They also accompany young, prize winning Irish dancers in their well loved Irish Folk Nights.

I Matching Ties sono una formazione ‘modulare’:possono essere anche ‘trio’ con un violinista, ‘quartetto’ o quintetto con l’aggiunta del bodhrán-batteria irlandese, violino, flauti e cornamusa. Sono nati come duo nel 1986 e da allora vanno avanti ad una media di oltre cento concerti all’anno, portando nelle situazioni più varie, dai pubs ai grandi festival, un repertorio che spazia fra le forme acustiche della musica celtica. Nella famiglia di musicisti dei Matching Ties ci sono: Lars Pfeiffer (Francoforte) uilleann pipes (cornamusa irlandese), tin e low whistles (flauto di metallo), Konrad Stock (Monaco di Baviera) bodhrán (percussione irlandese), Scottish Highland pipes (cornamusa scozzese) e whistles, Sepp Zauner e Sebastian Dorn (Germania) – violino. Nel suono dei Matching Ties il folk irlandese, scozzese ed inglese si fondono con il folk americano in cui anche gli impasti vocali rendono il suono complessivo pieno, rotondo. Non manca il lato spettacolare delle esibizioni dal vivo, dove il virtuosismo dei musicisti (capaci docenti dei loro strumenti) viene evidenziato, ma in un’atmosfera decisamente rilassata, in un dialogo divertito e divertente con il pubblico, si tratti di 30 o 3000 persone. Paul Stowe (USA) – Guitar, Bodhrán, Mandolin, Octave Mandolin, Banjo, Mouth Harps, Vocals
Paul Stowe ist in Hartfort, Connecticut (USA) geboren und in einer musikalischen Familie aufgewachsen – Vater klassischer Geiger, Mutter Opernsängerin. Mit 16 Jahre zog er nach Salt Lake City, Utah, wo er erste Konzerte in den ansässigen Clubs, später auch Tourneen durch den Westen der USA hatte. Es folgten 1 ½ Jahre Aufenthalt und Tourneen durch Italien und Westeuropa mit verschiedenen Bands. 1986 zog er nach München, trat der Bluegrass und Country-Formation Kentucky Bluefield bei und gründete Matching Ties mit Trevor. Paul lebt heute in Landkreis Rosenheim bei München, managt Matching Ties und spielt auch solo und mit Trevor in der Bluegrass-, Blues- und Swingband Grass Root Ties.
Paul grew up in a classical music family in Hartford, Connecticut (USA), started to play guitar at the age of 12, and began to play folk in Salt Lake City, Utah (USA) at university. Musical travels took him throughout North America and Europe. After 2 years in Italy, he moved to Munich and founded Matching Ties in 1986. Paul manages the band, plays together with Trevor in the bluegrass, blues and swing band Grass Root Ties and plays as a solo artist. Paul lives southeast of Munich, Germany.
Trevor Morriss (UK) – Mandolin, Irish Bouzouki, Guitar, Vocals
Trevor Morriss ist in der Nähe von London geboren und aufgewachsen. Hier hatte er in den 60er Jahren erste Konzerte als Pionier der Country- und Bluegrassmusik in England u.a. in einer Band mit seinen Brüdern. In den 70ern folgte ein zweijähriger Aufenthalt in den USA und Kanada und Auftritte mit namhaften amerikanischen Künstlern. 1980 zog er nach München und spielte mit der Gruppe Kentucky Bluefield um den Banjo-Virtuosen Rüdiger Helbig. 1986 gründete er Matching Ties mit Paul. Mit ihm spielt er auch in der Bluegrass-, Blues- und Swingband Grass Root Ties sowie als Gastmusiker in unterschiedlichen Formationen. Er unterrichtet Gitarre und Mandoline im Landkreis Starnberg bei München.
Trevor grew up in southeast London and in Cornwall, England. As one of the first Englishmen to play bluegrass and American folk in a string band with his brothers, he was influential in bringing American music to the English folk circuit. He lived for 2 years in the U.S.A. and Canada, playing in bluegrass and folk bands with many well-known musicians, before eventually settling 1980 in the Munich area. Playing as duo with Paul since 1986, they also play together in the bluegrass, blues and swing band Grass Root Ties.
Sepp Zauner (Germany) – Geige / Fiddle
Sepp Zauner stammt aus einer Musikerfamilie und lernte Akkordeon, Klarinette und Geige. In den 90er Jahren entdeckte er in Regensburg die irische Folkmusik und nahm u.a. an Workshops von Gerry O´Connor und Matt Cranitch teil. Er organisierte und spielte in Sessions und tourte mit Fish n‘ Jigs durch Deutschland. Heute spielt er in verschiedenen Folkbands u.a. bei Hubert Treml & die Pawalaatschn (Kreizüwa), Fuzzinger (Mundartrock), Uncle Sally und seit 2020 mit Matching Ties.

In the 90s he discovered Irish music, attending workshops from Gerry O´Connor and Matt Cranitch, and playing in sessions. He has since played in many folk bands and with various touring bands and artists including: Fish n‘ Jigs, Hubert Treml & die Pawalaatschn (Kreizüwa), Fuzzinger (German rock) and Uncle Sally. He joined Matching Ties in 2020.
Sebastian Dorn (Germany) – Geiger / Fiddle
Sebastian Dorn– Geiger und gymnasialer Kunstlehrer – ist einer der jungen Shootings Stars der europäischen Folkszene. Aufgewachsen in Erding, lebt er in Regensburg. Er organisiert irische Folksessions und leitet Workshops für irische Musik. Er tritt mit seinen Bands Breaking Strings und Cuillin auf. Mit feiner Technik und großem Repertoire spielt er mal flott, mal langsam, immer gefühlvoll. Er ist seit 2020 bei Matching Ties dabei.
Sebastian, fiddler and high school art teacher, is one of the young shooting stars of the European folk scene. He grew up in Erding near Munich, an moved to Regensburg, Germany where he leads folk sessions and plays with his bands “Breaking Strings“ and “Cuillin“. He joined Matching Ties in 2020.
Lars Pfeiffer (Germany) – Uilleann Pipes, Tin Whistle, Low Whistle, Small Pipes, Vocals
Lars Pfeiffer kommt aus Frankfurt am Main, wo er nach dem Schulabschluss mit dem Dudelsackspielen begann. Zuerst besuchte er die Dudelsack-Akademie in Hofheim, wo er mittelalterliche Sackpfeife lernte, sich aber auch für irische und schottische Folkmusik interessierte. Er spielte in der schottischen Folk- Band Fat Lazy Dogs und in der Mittelalter-Band Liudon Incorruptus. Er begann 2012 damit, Uilleann Pipes (irischer Dudelsack) zu spielen und nahm Unterricht bei Masaki Kato und Tiarnàn O’Duinnchinn (Irland). Nach dem Studium zog er 2018 in den Landkreis Rosenheim, ins Nachbardorf von Paul. Seitdem verfeinerte er seine Technik an den Uilleann Pipes mit Mark Redmond (Irland) und besuchte die Willy Clancy Summer School in Miltown Malbay, Irland. Lars spielt auch Tin- und Low Whistles, Small- und Border Pipes (Dudelsäcke). Seit 2022 spielt er bei Matching Ties.

He also discovered his love for Irish and Scottish folk during his studies at university in Giessen, Germany, and played in the Scottish folk band “Fat Lazy Dogs“ and the Medieval band “Liudon Incorruptus“. He began to study uilleann pipes under Masaki Kato und Tiarnàn O’Duinnchinn (Ireland) in 2012. In 2018 he moved to southern Bavaria S.E. of Munich in the neighboring village of Paul Stowe. He continues to hone his skills with piping lessons from Mark Redmond (Ireland) and attended the Willy Clancy Summer School in Miltown Malbay, Ireland. Lars also plays tin and low whistles and small and border pipes. In 2022 he joined “Matching Ties“.
Konrad Stock (Germany) – Bodhrán, Tin & Low Whistles, Scottish Small & Highland Pipes
Konrad Stock– der freundliche Arzt in der Band – ist ein alter Bekannter der Münchner irisch/keltischen Folkszene. Er spielte bereits u.a. in den Bands The Seer, Claymore Pipes & Drums und Summerfolks. Seit 2009 spielt Konrad bei Matching Ties Bodhran (irische Trommel), Tin- und Low Whistles, Uilleann Pipes und schottische Small und Highland Pipes (Dudelsäcke). Konrad hat in Schottland gelebt und war Teilnehmer an dem berühmten College of Piping.
Konrad, the jolly doctor in the band, is a familiar face in the Munich and German folk scene. He has played with many bands and in sessions around Europe and in Scotland over the years including the “The Seer”, “Claymore Pipes and Drums” and “Summer Folks”. Konrad joined Matching Ties in 2009, playing bodhrán, pipes and whistles. He lived a short time in Scotland where he attended the famous College of Piping.
